Letter from the President

Hello Fort Worth Branch members! First off, let me say that I am honored to serve as your ASCE Fort Worth Branch President for the 2023-2024 year! It is a privilege to hold the torch which was passed from our Past President Jeff Philipp’s capable hands to me.

This Fall marks our Fort Worth Branch’s 85th anniversary of continuous operation since National ASCE recognized our Branch in 1938. It is paramount to recognize the impact of civil engineer leaders that have made the Branch into the success it is today – thank you for your service to the Branch and the civil engineering profession. On the cusp of our next quinquennial (yes, that’s the next 5 years!), we have cultivated a group of high-spirited officers who are determined to grow our Branch larger and provide more engagement to our members. Part of my vision this year is to provide solid engagement to members, professionals, and especially students – who are the future leaders of our world.

Next year, I am excited to announce that we are hosting a Joint Student Chapter meeting – where students from Abilene Christian University, Tarleton State University and The University of Texas At Arlington will all be under the same roof with professionals! After our meeting, we are planning a site visit for further networking outside “the office”; last but not least,  there will be a Younger Member Happy Hour to end our day of fun. More details to follow, but the event is tentatively scheduled for Friday, March 22nd.

Back by popular demand, we will be hosting our ASCE Fort Worth Branch Golf Tournament on April 15th, 2024, at the Shady Valley Country Club! Please join us on the green for good food and a great time!

To conclude: I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve as your President this 2023-2024 year, and I’m looking forward to growing with you each step of the way. With that said, feel free to reach out to my e-mail below if you have any concerns, feedback or even ideas on how we can improve our Branch. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Derek Baker, PE, M.ASCE
