Fort Worth Branch ASCE Scholarship

The scholarship application for 2024 is now closed.

The Fort Worth Branch ASCE Civil Engineering Scholarship was created in 2017 to facilitate and assist students seeking to further their Civil Engineering education. The scholarship may be presented annually to undergraduate and graduate Civil Engineering students, who will use the scholarship for their sophomore, junior, senior, or post-graduate tuition expenses and fees. Preference will be given to students that are Sophomore and Junior level.

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist with and facilitate the education of worthy students that are motivated by and interested in pursuing a degree and future career in Civil Engineering.

There will be two scholarships awarded for TSU & ACU and three scholarships awarded for UTA.

  • TSU & ACU - 1st place for $1500 and 2nd place for $900

  • UTA Undergrad Students - 1st place for $1200 and 2nd place for $600

  • UTA Graduate students - 1st place for $600

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a student majoring in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington, Tarleton State University, or Abilene Christian University. Architectural Engineering students who are members of the Architectural Engineering Institute and ASCE Student Chapters at the above listed schools are also eligible for the scholarship.

  • Students majoring in Construction Management are not eligible for award.

  • The applicant must be an ASCE Student Member in good standing at the time of application and award.

  • The scholarship may be awarded only to those students who will continue their formal undergraduate and graduate education at one of the recognized educational institutions listed above.

  • The applicant must demonstrate a commitment to the Civil Engineering industry through the pursuit of a degree in Civil Engineering and participation in ASCE.

  • Previous recipients of this scholarship are eligible to apply in any succeeding competition for these awards provided the other requirements of eligibility are satisfied.

Application

Complete applications must be received by the Fort Worth Branch by January, 30th 2024. To apply:

  • Submit the following documents by email.

    • Your official transcript

    • One-page resume. Your resume should include: honors, activities, organizations, ASCE activities (including any offices held), and any work experience.

    • Proof of ASCE Student Membership. This can be a screenshot or PDF from the ASCE national website showing your membership status, please try the like below. Selection

  • Selection of recipients is made by the Fort Worth Branch’s Awards Committee.

  • The committee reserves the right to recommend that no award be made in a particular year if no meritorious applications are received.

  • Selection is based on appraisal of applicant’s essay, resume, academic performance, grade level, education plans, volunteer activities, justification to receive the award, potential for development, and demonstrated leadership qualities.

Award

  • The amount of each scholarship will be determined annually and is subject to approval of the Treasurer and the Fort Worth Branch’s Awards Committee.

  • The recipients will be notified of selection in March.

  • Award funds will be distributed by check and the selected students will be recognized at a monthly meeting of the Fort Worth Branch of ASCE.

  • Funds may be applied to tuition expenses and academic fees reasonably and logically associated with an undergraduate or graduate engineering program while continuing formal education in an ABET-accredited program.
